The April 30th section meeting offered members a glimpse into the city of Fort Worth’s recycling program. Soria Adibi from the Fort Worth Material Management Program shared information about the current and future status of Fort Worth recycling, including current recycle rates and rate goals. SWE members had the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the challenges it faces, such as a faster than expected fill rate for the city landfill. Contamination of the collected recyclable material is also an issue as residents often recycle materials that cannot be reclaimed with the current services. Besides residential services, Soria also discussed services the city can provide to local businesses to audit their current recycling program to determine if it can be improved and offer advice on best ways to implement changes that would make recycling easy for their employees.
